Facebook data breach: 509.458.528 accounts

Facebook data breach (chapter 509.458.528th)

You have probably heard of the colossal Facebook #databreach, in which upwards of 509,458,528 Facebook users from 106 countries had personal data leaked online, including phone numbers, Facebook IDs, birthdates, etc.

So far, I have only seen that the IE and IT DPA have taken public action against FB

– Data Protection Commission Ireland communicated that ‘the newly published dataset seems to comprise the original 2018 (pre GDPR) dataset and combined with additional records, which may be from a later period.’
It contacted FB and the company informed that it ‘believe[s] that the information in the data-set released this weekend was publicly available and scraped prior to changes made to the platform in 2018 and 2019’ and assured the IE DPA it is giving highest priority to providing concrete answers soon

– The Italian Data Protection Authority, after acknowledging that the breach affected 36m Italians (approx 60% of the IT population, I add), required FB to provide users with a service to verify whether their phone numbers or email addresses have been part of the breach.
Moreover, the IT DPA warns users of the potential misuses of their information and encourages them to take care of suspicious contacts in the following weeks.
