Children and personal data
Children deserve special protection because they may be less aware of the risks and consequences of their #personaldata processing.
The #GDPR includes specific provisions on children in art. 8, but also in arts. 6(1)(f) on leg. interests, 12 on transparency, 17(1) RTBF, rec. 71 on ADM/art. 22, and 40 on codes of conduct,
Additionally, art. 57(1)(b) GDPR requires DPAs to promote public awareness and understanding of the risks and rights concerning processing, especially when it comes to processing children’s PD
The Datatilsynet and The NO Directorate for Education launched in 2007 You Decide, which is a teaching resource about privacy and digital responsibility for children (from 9 to 18yo).
It aims at increasing awareness, reflection and knowledge about #privacy and the choices young people make when using digital media.
In particular, it provides educative contents for:
a) children aged 9-13
b) teenagers from 13-18
– privacy
– social media
– unwarranted occurrences
– source criticism (9-13yo) –> especially important nowadays!
– digital traits (13-18yo)
c) adults: different contents for:
– teachers
– school owners and leaders
– parents
