May can be considered as the cookie month, since there was an unprecedented move towards enforcing the legislation on cookies.
The first move was made by the CNIL – Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés, which on 18th May send 20 notices to companies and public bodies that do not allow Internet users to refuse or accept #cookies as easily. They have one month to comply.
Then, on 31st May noyb.eu sent over 500 complaints to companies who use unlawful cookie banners. They also developed a software that recognizes various types of unlawful cookie banners and automatically generates complaints. They plan to send up to 10.000 complaints to the most visited sites in the EU
While the use of cookies and other #tracking technologies is regulated in the e-privacy directive, the details are further developed in national laws or guidelines issued by the DPAs. This document assesses the convergences and divergences of the guidelines issued by FR, UK, ES, and DE (DSK) DPAs
