Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama 2018
The Americans is a show about espionage that begins in the aftermath of the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in Jan 1981 and concludes in Dec 1987, shortly before the leaders of the US and the URSS signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty
It tells the story of Nadezhda (Keri Russell) and Mischa (Matthew Rhys), two Soviet spies who pose as a married couple (renamed Philip and Elizabeth Jennnings) that was arranged years ago by the K.G.B. They run a travel agency and live in a suburban house outside Washington, D.C.
The show explores the conflict between Washington’s FBI office and the KGB Rezidentura by following the perspectives of agents on both sides, including the spies’ neighbor Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), an FBI agent working in counterintelligence.
In the basement, the spies plan seductions, kidnappings, and assassinations. Also, for those interested in #privacy and data security, they bug, wiretap, make undercover work and tactics to evade security measures and collect information.
This is one of the best series I’ve ever watched. The high level is kept from season 1 throughout the other seasons and it also has a tremendous final in season 6.
